Medical Writing

Medical review and quality control

We check numerical values, claims and sources in a specified version, recording issues, suggested revisions and point-by-point resolution outcomes.

Relevant departments
Medical, statistical, research publication, regulatory and other departments needing independent review.

This service supports all other services and can also be commissioned separately. Review is an independent responsibility; writers and quality controllers hold separate roles.

Service scope and deliverables

Each service below specifies its scope, deliverables, specifications and timeline, and pricing basis.

Numerical and reporting consistency checks

Service scope
Check effect measures, confidence intervals and composite outcome definitions for consistency across text, figures and tables, and sources.
Deliverables
Review comments and suggested revisions.
Specifications and timeline
Totals are calculated programmatically and records retained, without relying on visual inspection. Timeline confirmed for each project.
Pricing basis
Priced as review only, where the client writes the manuscript and we provide only methodological, statistical or compliance review.

Checks on interpretive limits

Service scope
Check whether observational associations in retrospectively matched cohorts are presented as treatment effects and whether residual confounding is explained.
Deliverables
Review comments and suggested revisions.
Specifications and timeline
Timeline confirmed for each project.
Pricing basis
Priced as review only.

Comment resolution records

Service scope
Record whether each comment is accepted.
Deliverables
A point-by-point record of responses to comments accompanies the manuscript on delivery; it is not retained solely as internal notes.
Specifications and timeline
State whether each comment is accepted and why. Timeline confirmed according to the document under review.
Pricing basis
Priced as review only or as an item within the relevant project quotation.

Typical workflow

For standalone review, first fix the version and scope, then verify against sources.

  1. Scope and version confirmation

List documents under review, source materials, the purpose of review and the questions to be answered.

  2. Numerical and reporting consistency checks

Check denominators, effect measures, interval estimates and outcome definitions in the text, tables and figures against analysis outputs and original sources.

  3. Checks on interpretive limits

Check whether study design supports the wording, identifying confusion between association and causation, unstated limitations and conclusions beyond the data.

  4. Comment compilation and resolution

Prepare review comments and suggested revisions, recording acceptance or rejection and the reasons for each.

  5. Revision checks and delivery confirmation

Check revision locations and resolution outcomes within the agreed scope, and deliver the point-by-point comment resolution record with the manuscript.

Third-party review means checking a specified client-supplied manuscript within an agreed scope. The review basis, verifiable materials and unresolved issues should be recorded explicitly. This does not replace the responsibilities of authors, sponsors or document signatories.

Package engagement

Independent review and review within projects

Where the client writes the manuscript, methodological, statistical or compliance review can be commissioned separately and priced as review only. Review can also be arranged within a project, with comment resolution records quoted as a separate project item.

The client must identify the version under review, supplied materials and review scope. The requirement confirmation form governs the scope; using third-party review does not transfer final responsibility for the original document.

Applicable standards and quality control

Review criteria depend on document type, covering both reporting completeness and whether available materials support the wording.

Quality control covers five categories: facts and sources, numerical reconciliation, compliance, language and formatting, and delivery completeness. Totals are calculated programmatically and records retained, without relying on visual inspection. Each medical claim is marked with a PubMed identifier (PMID), digital object identifier (DOI) or prescribing information section number, together with the verification date.

Frequently asked questions

Commissioning independent review

A specified manuscript version and its sources can be submitted for our review. We provide review comments and suggested revisions; a point-by-point record of responses to comments can be delivered within the agreed scope.

Third-party review versus certification

This service provides medical, methodological, statistical or compliance review within an agreed scope. It must not be described as regulatory recognition, third-party certification or an assurance of publication.

Recording comments not accepted

Record whether each comment is accepted and why. A point-by-point record of responses accompanies the manuscript on delivery, rather than remaining solely as internal notes.

Review scope when materials are insufficient

Where only a manuscript is available, without original sources or analysis outputs, some numerical values and medical claims may not be verifiable. The verifiable scope and missing materials should be stated explicitly; unverified content must not be presented as having passed review.

Revision rounds and response timelines

Standard provision includes at least 2 rounds of internal quality control plus 2 rounds of client revisions. We acknowledge comments and provide a handling plan within 1 working day, start revisions within 2 working days, and return the revised version and point-by-point comment resolution record within 5–7 working days. The contract governs each specific project.
